PAY-PER-CALL ANSWERS

How do you buy inbound calls? A buyer checklist

Updated October 8, 2026 · By the LiveWireCalls team

IN BRIEF

The short answer

Start by writing down what a call is worth paying for: the billable duration, the callers you want and don't want, your territory and hours, and how many calls you can answer. Agree on price, duplicates and returns, run a small capped test, review recordings and outcomes, and only then raise volume.

  • Write the rules before you buy any traffic.
  • Staff the phones for the hours you buy.
  • Start with a daily cap and review recordings.
  • Scale on evidence, not on a volume promise.

The buyer checklist

  • Billable event: call, qualified call, transfer, lead or appointment
  • Billable duration and where the timer starts
  • Qualification rules and exclusions
  • Territory: states, counties, cities or ZIPs
  • Hours, holidays, daily caps and concurrent call limits
  • Delivery: phone number, routing rules or RTB endpoint
  • Price, duplicate window, return rules and payment terms
  • Who reviews recordings and how disputes are settled

Running the first test

Begin with technical test calls to confirm routing. Then open a small daily cap during hours your team is fully staffed. Review every recording in the first days, give specific dispositions back to the publisher, and change the rules if the calls are close but not right. Increase the cap only when the cost per sale works.

QUESTIONS

Common questions.

01How many calls should a first test include?+

Enough to judge quality across a few days and sources. The right number depends on your close rate and call price, so agree on it before launch.

02What if the calls are poor quality?+

Review recordings against the written rules. Calls that miss the rules should be returned under the agreement; calls that meet them but don't close usually point to a rules or sales-process change.
